Scale Aerobatics WA (SAWA) 2004-2012

The Group that started it all!

Scale Aerobatics Western Australia began in 2004 and was incorporated in January 2006 as an Association to provide a support for a program of competitions in Scale Aerobatics in WA. Prior to this informal competitions and practice sessions had been held voraciously at the KAMS Mundijong field. Peter Bryner (Pres), Mark Easton (VP), Ben Cohen (Sec/Treas), Rob Zarebski made up the first committee. The first IMAC Competition was held in Northam in August of 2005, with the motley group of Ben Cohen, Graeme McConnell, Mark Easton, Rob Zarebski Peter Bryner, Marty Martin, Hans Bertina and Gary Prince as contestants.

Smaller aircraft were common in those early days.

The next competition was on a 35 degree December day held at Whiteman Park.

The Wanneroo club hosted an early competition with the largest number of competitors yet.

In 2005 the August competition was in Northam again, with rather cold weather making flying interesting.

In 2006 the Western Australians travelled the continent to attend the ASAA Bendigo competiton for the first of many times.

A number of members regularly commit to significant travel across and around Australia and even New Zealand, the most notable trip of 2012 been the Ketherine Kracker hosted by IMAC NT which saw Mark Easton haul 4 planes for 5 pilots all the way to Katherine in the Northern Territory.

Scale Aerobatics WA hopes to be able to support pilots financially that are regularly traveling away and will be looking to send some of our top pilots to the 2014 World IMAC event to be held in Muncie, USA.

Kalgoorlie has been an active location for competitions (known as IMAC out East) on the June long weekend each year since 2005. Kalgoorlie consistently has a freestyle round as well, 2013 will hopefully see an increase in freestyle rounds at our events with the pickup of a PA system

Robert Chitty has been President of Scale Aerobatics during 2011-12 and 2012-13 years and prior Rob Zarebski held the office 2009-10 and 2010-11 financial years. Bill Bland has been the state representative of Scale Aerobatics WA to the Australian Scale Aerobatics Association. Ben Cohen, Jeff Gittos and Craig James have also been active in supporting the club as Secretary/Treasurer for several years each. Finally Mark Easton has been the almost perennial Vice-President of the club, and now is the state representative to the Australian Scale Aerobatics Association.
